Opportunities As A "Service Provider"

To provide a "service" and be successful, you must know what you are doing. If not, the customers coming to you will fade away and so will your income.

This is especially true in a small community where word of mouth is supreme and no matter how large the advertising budget is, cannot be overcome.

YOU must provide a service that is appreciated and respected by your customers.

You can provide a service from a fixed location or take your services to your customer. The type of service will dictate the needs for space and equipment.

A repair shop of any kind will require equipment expense. Review the information provided on the "small business" page and the "sole proprietor" page. Do your plan.

Do you have technical knowledge and background? Are you extremely happy working on cars, lawnmowers, or doing yard work? How about Janitorial work? Is there something that you enjoy doing and are good at it? Provide the service as a business.

I personally like working on and with computers and helping others with theirs. I have also been involved with owner operated businesses and feel I have something to offer to anyone who is thinking about starting one or is currently having concerns with an already established business. That is why "Bill's Place" came to be.

There are many service type business' that exist today. Some are good and some need a little more work to be effective or efficient. Look at all the various web hosting services that have come and gone in the last three or four years.

Look at the web sites like this one. We are a "Service Provider" in that our main goal is to provide information and recommendations for our visitors to think about and act upon. We are trying to solve our visitors problems and answer their concerns.

As a "Service Provider", your goal MUST be to solve your visitors problem or point them in the direction that will.

It does not make a difference if your cutting grass as a service. You must know how your customer wants the grass to look, how short, and you must clean up afterwards. Otherwise the service was not completed and your customers will look to finding a new "Service Provider".

You could be running a copy service. If the customer wants double sided copies and you only provide single sided copy…….lost customer. You failed to provide the service the customer wanted.

Know all the particulars of any service you plan to provide. Try to find what your competition is offering or lacking. Then you can better plan to offer the complete package and be your customers "Service Provider" of choice.
